Eight injured in Mirali quadcopter attack

Published on: January 22, 2026 4:05 PM

Have India and Pakistan started a drone war?

NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Eight people, including three children, were injured in a quadcopter attack in Mirali subdivision of North Waziristan on Wednesday, officials and locals reported. Explosive material dropped from the drone struck a residential area, causing panic and injuries among civilians.

The wounded were initially taken to Mirali Hospital for treatment, with some critically injured victims later referred to Bannu Hospital for specialized care. Local residents expressed anger and fear following the attack, highlighting the growing insecurity in the region. “We are already living under constant fear and insecurity. Drone attacks are now targeting children and innocent civilians — when will the government provide us protection?” asked Abdul Jalil, a local elder.

Latif Khan, another resident, said repeated incidents had paralyzed normal life. “Children are afraid to go to school, and the public is suffering from severe mental stress,” he added. The attack occurred in broad daylight, amplifying concerns about civilian safety.

Mirali and surrounding areas of North Waziristan have previously witnessed similar quadcopter and drone strikes, targeting civilians, schools, and government installations. Just weeks ago, a drone attack on a private educational institution left several teachers and students injured. Locals report ongoing drone surveillance, raising anxiety and disrupting daily life.

Police authorities confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been launched, but no immediate claims of responsibility have been made. Security officials have reiterated the need for vigilance in affected areas and are coordinating with local administration to strengthen safety measures.

As the region grapples with repeated drone incidents, residents continue to demand government intervention and protection to prevent further civilian casualties and restore a sense of normalcy.
