Rimpa plaza declared dangerous after Gul plaza fire tragedy

Published on: January 21, 2026 4:23 PM

The pillars of Rimpa Plaza, located next to Gul Plaza on M.A. Jinnah Road, have been severely damaged following the devastating fire that destroyed Gul Plaza recently. Officials warned that structural instability has made the building unsafe for use. The Sindh Building Control Authority promptly issued notices to the administration and shop owners, emphasizing that no part of the affected building should be accessed until a safety assessment is completed.

Authorities explained that the fire at Gul Plaza caused extensive damage not only to the building itself but also to surrounding structures like Rimpa Plaza. The SBCA highlighted that the compromised pillars pose serious risks to residents, visitors, and shopkeepers, and strict measures are necessary to prevent accidents. The administration was instructed to halt all commercial and unauthorized activities immediately.

Furthermore, the SBCA clarified that Rimpa Plaza cannot be reopened until structural repairs are verified and certified by qualified engineers. The notice warns of strict legal consequences for anyone attempting to bypass safety orders. The authorities emphasized that compliance is essential to prevent further tragedies in the area.

Meanwhile, rescue operations continue as officials confirm casualties and missing persons from the Gul Plaza fire. Out of 81 reported missing, 74 individuals have been traced, while 28 people tragically lost their lives. Emergency teams are coordinating efforts to ensure proper identification and provide support to affected families.

In addition, city authorities have urged building owners to conduct regular safety audits to avoid similar disasters in the future. Public awareness campaigns are being launched to educate shopkeepers and residents about fire safety measures and the importance of following SBCA directives. Preventive steps are seen as crucial for protecting lives and property.

Finally, the Rimpa Plaza incident has raised concerns over urban safety standards and emergency preparedness. Officials insist that adherence to building codes, timely inspections, and responsible administration are vital to prevent structural failures. Citizens are urged to stay vigilant and report unsafe conditions to authorities without delay.
