“CM Murad must resign,” says Hafiz Naeem

Published on: January 21, 2026 9:47 PM

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeemur Rehman demanded Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah resign after the Gul Plaza fire tragedy. He said no official was ready to take responsibility for Karachi. Hafiz Naeem also criticized Punjab’s local government law and threatened protests if changes were not made.

Speaking to the media in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said the Sindh chief minister failed to protect Karachi’s citizens. He called the fire incident avoidable and criticized the provincial administration for inaction. He urged Murad Ali Shah to step down immediately to restore public trust.

Hafiz Naeem highlighted the Punjab government’s “black law” on local government elections. He said a Jamaat-e-Islami referendum revealed 97 percent of participants opposed it. He warned that failing to address public concerns could spark large-scale protests in Lahore and other cities.

The JI chief stressed that Karachi needed accountable leadership. He said citizens could no longer tolerate negligence in city governance. Hafiz Naeem added that all political leaders must prioritize safety and ensure transparent administration.

He concluded by saying Jamaat-e-Islami would take strict action if authorities ignored public demands. The party could surround the Punjab Assembly to demand changes. Hafiz Naeem urged both Sindh and Punjab governments to listen to citizens’ voices.
