Three injured in Bannu ambulance attack

Published on: January 15, 2026 1:18 PM

BANNU: Three people were injured when unidentified assailants opened fire on a private ambulance transporting a patient to Islamabad on Wednesday. The attack occurred at Sperka Chowk in Domel, where armed men signalled the ambulance to stop. When the driver did not comply, the assailants fired at the vehicle, injuring three people accompanying the patient and damaging the ambulance. The patient and driver, however, remained unhurt.

The injured were identified as Mazhar Hussain, a resident of Jhang, Shakir Ali from Karak, and Sheeraz from Pakpattan, all employees of a private care centre in Islamabad. According to police reports, the ambulance was carrying a patient, Rehmat, for medical treatment when the attack occurred.

In a separate incident on Wednesday, unknown attackers targeted Bannu Central Jail with a hand grenade and a sniper attack. The grenade struck the jail wall before bouncing back onto the road and exploding. Thanks to heightened security measures, no casualties or damage were reported.

The jail authorities had received prior threat alerts and had increased patrols in response, which officials said helped prevent any loss of life during the attack.

In another separate incident, a veterinary doctor named Arslan, 35, was shot dead near a mosque adjacent to Tarang graveyard. His body was taken to the hospital for postmortem, and police have launched an investigation into the incident.

The series of attacks has raised concerns over security in Bannu, with authorities urging citizens to remain vigilant while investigations into all incidents continue.
