In a separate development, the 248th meeting of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) elected Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti as vice chairman for 2026, securing 15 of 23 votes in a secret ballot, while Muhammad Maqsood Buttar’s candidate Qazi Muhammad Arshad received eight votes. Muneer A. Malik of Karachi was elected chairman of the PBC executive committee.
The council also condemned campaigns targeting judges of the Lahore and Islamabad High Courts, calling them attacks on judicial integrity. It reaffirmed that the legal fraternity would resist efforts to undermine the judiciary’s prestige and dignity.
