JCP confirms 10 additional Sindh High Court judges, extends two others

Published on: January 14, 2026 2:38 PM

ISLAMABAD: The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) has recommended the confirmation of 10 additional judges of the Sindh High Court (SHC), while extending the tenure of two others for six months. The decision was made during the second day of the commission’s meeting at the Supreme Court, presided over by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi.

The newly confirmed judges include Justice Miran Muhammad Shah, Justice Tasneem Sultana, Justice Riazat Ali Sahar, Justice Muhammad Hassan (Akber), Justice Abdul Hamid Bhurgi, Justice Jan Ali Junejo, Justice Nisar Ahmed Bhanbhro, Justice Ali Haider ‘Ada’, Justice Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi, and Justice Muhammad Jaffer Raza. Meanwhile, Justice Khalid Hussain Shahani and Justice Syed Fiazul Hassan Shah had their tenures extended.

The JCP also nominated four judges — Justice Amjad Ali Bohio, Justice Muhammad Hassan (Akber), Justice Ali Haider ‘Ada’ and Justice Muhammad Osman Ali Hadi — to the constitutional bench of the SHC and extended the tenure of these benches by six months. On Wednesday, the commission is set to consider the confirmation of 10 additional judges of the Peshawar High Court.

In a separate development, the 248th meeting of the Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) elected Pir Muhammad Masood Chishti as vice chairman for 2026, securing 15 of 23 votes in a secret ballot, while Muhammad Maqsood Buttar’s candidate Qazi Muhammad Arshad received eight votes. Muneer A. Malik of Karachi was elected chairman of the PBC executive committee.

The council also condemned campaigns targeting judges of the Lahore and Islamabad High Courts, calling them attacks on judicial integrity. It reaffirmed that the legal fraternity would resist efforts to undermine the judiciary’s prestige and dignity.

The confirmation of additional SHC judges strengthens the court’s capacity, while the PBC elections set leadership for the coming year, highlighting ongoing institutional developments in Pakistan’s legal system.
