Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar approved the plan during a high-level meeting and directed officers to implement all measures in letter and spirit. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the deployment includes 419 inspectors, 1,267 sub-inspectors, 2,189 assistant sub-inspectors, 1,408 head constables and 16,977 constables and other personnel.

In Lahore alone, over 5,000 police officers and personnel will be on duty to ensure security at public places, markets, recreational spots and major roads. Police said activities across Lahore and other cities would be closely monitored through CCTV cameras and the Safe City surveillance system.

The IGP directed the police to remain on high alert and maintain strict vigilance against anti-state and criminal elements. He announced zero tolerance for one-wheelie, aerial firing, display of weapons and hooliganism during New Year celebrations, warning that strict legal action would be taken against violators.

Dr Usman Anwar also ordered effective traffic management arrangements across the province. He instructed the Dolphin Squad, Punjab Highway Patrol, Elite Force and Police Response Units to intensify patrolling on major roads and highways to ensure public safety.

Police officials said search and sweep operations would be conducted regularly in Lahore and other cities, while surety bonds would be obtained from individuals previously involved in one-wheelie and aerial firing incidents. Senior officers, including the CCPO Lahore, regional police officers and district police officers, have been directed to personally supervise security arrangements.

Additionally, chief traffic officers and district traffic officers have been instructed to deploy extra personnel to ensure smooth traffic flow during the night.

Appealing to citizens for cooperation, the IGP urged the public to report any suspicious activity, aerial firing or reckless behaviour by calling the police helpline 15, stressing that public support was vital for maintaining peace and safety on New Year Night.
