The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made it mandatory for all SIM cards to be registered under the actual user’s name. Using a SIM registered in another person’s name is now considered illegal and may result in legal action. Consumers have been urged to verify their SIM registration status immediately.
According to PTA, the registered user will be held fully responsible for any misuse, including calls, messages, and data usage. The authority emphasized that users must ensure their telecom connections are used lawfully, as violations of regulations can lead to penalties, suspension, or legal proceedings.

The move is part of PTA’s efforts to curb illegal SIM usage, prevent cybercrime, and enhance national security. Unregistered or improperly registered SIMs may be regularized immediately to avoid penalties and ensure compliance with telecom rules.
Officials warned that strict monitoring will continue and authorities will take action against any SIM found violating regulations. The policy aims to safeguard users and the broader telecom infrastructure across Pakistan from misuse and fraud.
