
BANNU: Three employees of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) were injured on Tuesday when armed men attempted to abduct them near Domel town in Bannu, but the kidnapping bid was thwarted after the workers resisted and police responded swiftly.

According to police and Pesco officials, the incident occurred near Adhmi Bridge where the employees were carrying out routine work on an electricity supply line. Unidentified assailants tried to forcibly take the workers away, but the employees resisted, prompting the attackers to open fire, leaving three workers injured.

Pesco Bannu spokesperson Umar Ali Khan identified the injured as superintendent Umar Dar Ali Khan, lineman Noor Mohammad Khan and driver Eidullah Khan. They were rushed to Khalifa Gul Nawaz Hospital, where they were reported to be out of danger. Following the incident, Pesco Bannu circle superintending engineer Saeedur Rehman and a large number of employees visited the hospital to inquire after their colleagues.
District Police Officer Yasir Afridi confirmed that militants were behind the attempted abduction and said a timely police response prevented the attackers from succeeding. He added that search operations were underway in various areas to arrest those involved.

The incident has raised concerns over the security of utility workers in the district, where such threats have surfaced in the past. Officials recalled that five Pesco employees were abducted in Bannu earlier but were safely recovered after nearly two months following successful negotiations.
