Punjab Police, CNF agree on joint strategy against drug trafficking

Published on: December 20, 2025 9:07 AM

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar on Friday met Director General Counter Narcotics Force (CNF) Punjab Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal at the Central Police Office and agreed on strengthening joint action to curb drug trafficking across the province.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the CNF delegation included Deputy DG Lieutenant Colonel Sarfraz Khan, Director Asif Shafi, Deputy Director Major Furqan Raja and other officers, while Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Naikokara and AIG Operations Punjab Zahid Nawaz Marwat were also present.

During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on taking action against major drug dealers, disrupting drug supply chains and enhancing inter-agency coordination. Both sides agreed to make bilateral cooperation more effective and adopt a joint strategy to eliminate drug trafficking.

IGP Punjab Dr Usman Anwar said Punjab Police and CNF would enhance information and data sharing to apprehend drug smugglers. He directed all RPOs and DPOs to formulate joint operational targets and strategies in coordination with CNF for an effective crackdown against drug dealers.

He said that under Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of a “Drug-Free Punjab,” a robust anti-drug campaign was underway across the province. The IGP added that Punjab Police would provide training and technical assistance to CNF in investigation, challaning and prosecution of drug-related cases, besides organising joint training workshops for officers of both forces.

DG CNF Brig Mazhar Iqbal appreciated the performance of Punjab Police, particularly the CCD, in combating drug trafficking and paid tribute to police personnel who laid down their lives during anti-drug operations. He said both forces would continue working together to eliminate the menace of drugs from Punjab in line with the chief minister’s vision.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has taken notice of an incident in which two persons were killed as a result of firing over a land dispute within the jurisdiction of Police Station Shahpur Saddar, Sargodha.

The IGP Punjab sought a detailed report from the regional police officer (RPO) Sargodha and directed the district police officer (DPO) Sargodha to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused involved in the incident. He ordered that all available resources be utilised to apprehend the suspects and bring those responsible to justice at the earliest. According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the deceased were identified as Daniyal and Hamid Ullah.

DPO Sargodha Sohaib Ashraf said that police and forensic teams had collected evidence from the crime scene, while special teams had been constituted to arrest the accused.
