An Anti-Terrorism Court dismissed the post-arrest bail petition of Pakistani-origin British citizen Aqib Khan in the case of attempting to kill a traffic policeman and spreading terror in I-8 Markaz. ATC Judge Abual Hassnat Muhammad Zulkarnain heard the case. During the hearing, the accused’s lawyer took the stand that his client is a British national and was not fully aware of Pakistani laws.
According to the lawyer, this does not constitute a terrorism case and the police have registered an FIR based on lies contrary to the facts.
Prosecutor Raja Naveed told the court that foreign nationals are required to abide by Pakistani laws more. According to the prosecutor, weapons were recovered from the accused, which proved that he acted with the intention of killing the traffic policeman. He said that the accused spread terror in the commercial area, of which there is also video evidence. The prosecutor further argued that, according to judicial precedents, spreading fear and panic in public places falls under the category of terrorism; therefore, the accused is not eligible for bail.
The court rejected the post-arrest bail application of accused Aqib Khan after the parties completed their arguments. A case has been registered against the accused at the I-9 police station under the anti-terrorism law and other sections.
