Qureshi’s bail pleas in May 9 cases adjourned

Published on: December 13, 2025 2:34 AM

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Friday adjourned the post-arrest bail hearings of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi in three May 9 arson and vandalism cases after the prosecution once again failed to produce the case record.

ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the proceedings and directed the prosecution to ensure submission of the complete records by December 19, the next date of hearing.

Qureshi has filed post-arrest bail petitions in cases pertaining to the attack at Club Chowk, GOR Gate, and the burning of police vehicles near Mughalpura and Jinnah House.

Meanwhile, an anti-terrorism court extended the interim bail of PTI leaders MPA Hafiz Farhat Abbas, Ali Imtiaz Waraich, Nadeem Abbas Bara, and Imtiaz Mahmood Sheikh until January 23 in multiple May 9 cases, including attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.

Hafiz Farhat Abbas had filed a one-day exemption from personal appearance, which the court approved. Ali Imtiaz Waraich, Nadeem Abbas Bara, Imtiaz Mahmood Sheikh, and other accused appeared before the court during the proceedings. The hearing was conducted by ATC Judge Manzer Ali Gill.

Ali Imtiaz Waraich has filed interim bail in the Jinnah House attack case, Hafiz Farhat Abbas in four cases, and Imtiaz Mahmood Sheikh in three cases.

Moreover, an anti-terrorism court extended the interim bail of PTI leaders Musarrat Jamshed Cheema and Jamshed Iqbal Cheema until January 23 in multiple cases stemming from the May 9 violence, including the attacks on Jinnah House and Askari Tower.

ATC Administrative Judge Manzer Ali Gill conducted the proceedings. The couple appeared before the court as their interim bail period had expired.

During the hearing, the court directed investigators to complete the probe in the cases pertaining to Musarrat Jamshed Cheema. The investigation against Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has already been completed. The court further instructed that arguments on the bail petitions be presented at the next hearing. Musarrat Jamshed Cheema has secured interim bail in eight cases, while Jamshed Iqbal Cheema has obtained interim bail in four cases. The cases include charges related to the Jinnah House attack, Askari Tower attack, and incidents of arson outside Rahat Bakery, among others. The court adjourned further proceedings until the next scheduled date.
