Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, has said that the tragic incident at Gulshan-e-Iqbal, NIPA, has saddened every person with a compassionate heart. Presenting a policy statement in the Sindh Assembly regarding the incident, he said that the death of innocent Ibrahim after falling into a manhole is a deeply heartbreaking tragedy. The cries and grief of the mother have shaken everyone’s conscience.
He said that with the cooperation of the Honorable Speaker, an investigative committee comprising the representatives present in the Sindh Assembly is being constituted. Some reports regarding the NIPA tragedy have been received, but we are not satisfied with them. Senior officers are also being included in the committee formed with the representatives of the Sindh Assembly.
He assured that strict action will be taken against whoever is found responsible. We will try our best to ensure that no mother loses her child in the future. A mechanism is being developed to prevent the theft of manhole covers.
Similar incidents have occurred in the past as well, but no permanent solution was implemented, due to which such tragic incidents continue to occur repeatedly.
