KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab on Monday visited the Green Line Common Corridor near Radio Pakistan to review progress on the ongoing extension work.
He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, opposition leader in the Sindh Assembly Ali Khurshidi, MQM leader Amin ul Haq and the federal government’s spokesman for Sindh, Raja Khaleeq uz Zaman. Senior officials of the Pakistan International Development Company Limited (PIDCL) were also present during the inspection.

Raja Khaleeq uz Zaman briefed the officials, stating that the Green Line project is fully functional along a 21-kilometre stretch. He added that construction on the project’s extension phase is progressing steadily.

According to him, work had been paused last month after the mayor highlighted technical concerns, which have now been resolved. He thanked the mayor for his cooperation and timely intervention.
Speaking to the media, Mayor Murtaza Wahab said the objections raised earlier were aimed at improving the project for the benefit of the public. He noted that citizens face unavoidable inconvenience during the construction phase of major urban development schemes.

The mayor announced that the Green Line Project is expected to be completed by October 31, 2026, after which it will be opened to the public. Wahab also confirmed that issues related to the Red Line project have been settled and emphasized that the Green Line is intended to function as a common corridor under Karachi’s integrated transport system.
He expressed gratitude to the prime minister and said Karachi needs more development projects to relieve pressure on its growing population. Earlier, the mayor had asked PIDCL to provide a clear completion timeline for both the Green Line and Red Line projects.

He stressed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation must be fully satisfied with the progress and compliance with deadlines, pointing out that the No Objection Certificate issued in 2017 has yet to be fully implemented, causing prolonged inconvenience for commuters.
