The government is preparing to reduce electricity prices as the latest monthly fuel cost adjustment signals relief for consumers across Pakistan. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested a 65-paisa-per-unit cut, aiming to ease the financial burden on households.

According to the proposal, the reduction is linked to October’s fuel cost adjustment, which NEPRA will review during a scheduled hearing on November 27. This adjustment will apply nationwide, including Karachi, ensuring all consumers benefit from the potential decrease.
Moreover, the country is currently implementing September’s fuel adjustment, which had already lowered electricity prices by 48 paisa per unit. This earlier reduction helped soften the impact of rising living costs for millions of consumers.

If NEPRA approves the new request, the upcoming price cut will mark a second consecutive month of tariff relief. The move also signals the government’s intention to stabilise electricity costs through regular adjustments in line with fuel price trends.
Consequently, consumers are hopeful that consistent reductions may offer continued financial ease in the coming months, especially as households struggle with high utility bills and broader inflationary pressures.
