UoG proctorial board charts path for discipline, values at campus

Published on: November 21, 2025 4:40 PM

GUJRAT – The first meeting of the newly reconstituted Proctorial Board at the University of Gujrat set the tone for strengthening discipline, nurturing social and cultural values and guiding campus life towards excellence.

The meeting was held at Hafiz Hayat Campus on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dr Abdul Majid Sandhu, who was assisted by Dr Sameera Afshan and Dr Mudassar. The board emphasized that its foremost mission is to uphold rules and regulations while fostering respect, character-building and a positive academic environment.

The purpose of the meeting was to enhance and refine the daily activities on campus, ensuring they move from good to excellent. The primary responsibility of the Proctorial Board is to maintain discipline at various levels, uphold rules and regulations, and nurture social and cultural values within the university community.

Dr Abdul Majid Sandhu informed the members that in the 50th Syndicate meeting, a code of conduct for both staff and students had been formally approved. This code of conduct includes several clauses regarding the ethics and behaviour of students, faculty and administration. He emphasized that adherence to this code plays a vital role in shaping both individual and collective life. Alongside teaching, faculty members bear the important responsibility of character-building and fostering positive personality development among students.

The proctors in the reconstituted Proctorial Board have been selected from different departments. These proctors are expected to fulfill their duties responsibly and contribute to strengthening campus discipline.

The meeting highlighted that inappropriate behaviors such as disrespect towards teachers, staff or security guards; harassment of any kind; misconduct with fellow students; failure to display university ID cards; disregard for dress code; unnecessary loitering in various areas; and above all, smoking or any form of tobacco use are considered punishable offenses. Students found involved in such activities may face fines.

To ensure students are well-informed, a comprehensive awareness campaign will be launched so that no student can claim ignorance of these rules.
