
PESHAWAR: Severe rains and floods have claimed 631 lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the first nine months of the current year, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported on Tuesday. The report also noted that 429 people were injured in rain-related incidents across the province.
Among the fatalities, 202 were men, 190 women, and 239 children, while injuries included 207 men, 86 women, and 145 children. The devastating weather events also caused the deaths of 7,153 livestock.

The PDMA reported significant damage to property, with 3,798 homes affected by rainfall and flooding. Of these, 1,089 homes were completely destroyed, while 2,700 sustained partial damage. In addition, 796 school buildings were damaged, including 166 completely wrecked and 593 partially damaged facilities.
The province experienced widespread devastation during this year’s monsoon season, as cloudbursts, flash floods, and heavy rains wreaked havoc across multiple districts. Authorities have emphasized the need for improved disaster preparedness to mitigate future losses of life and property.

Officials continue to assess the long-term impact on affected communities and are urging residents to remain cautious during unpredictable weather patterns in the coming months.
