X has launched its revamped Chat platform, introducing major updates to its messaging system, including voice and video calls, file sharing, and advanced privacy features for users on iOS and the web.
The new service replaces the platform’s basic inbox, offering message editing, deletion, and privacy options like end-to-end encryption and screenshot alerts, while Android users are expected to receive the update soon.
X is also developing a voice memo feature to allow users to send short audio messages, expanding communication options beyond text and standard multimedia files.

The company previously previewed parts of the overhaul, launching an initial version of encrypted messaging earlier this year, but paused the rollout in May to resolve technical and security issues.
The updated help centre article states that X now supports encrypted group messaging and encrypted media, though some metadata, such as recipient information, remains unprotected, limiting full privacy protection for users.

Despite the improvements, X warns the system cannot prevent man-in-the-middle attacks, meaning malicious insiders or legal obligations could compromise encrypted chats, but the company is developing tools to verify chat authenticity.
