KHYBER: Three people lost their lives and another was injured after a hand grenade accidentally exploded inside a house in Bara tehsil of Khyber district on Saturday. The incident occurred at the residence of Dawlat Mir in the Malakdinkhel area, when an occupant inadvertently pulled the grenade’s pin.

The victims—Dawlat Mir, Haroon, and Rahmatullah—died instantly, while a fourth person, Habibullah, sustained injuries and was rushed to Dogra Hospital for treatment. Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances of the explosion.

In a separate development, tribal elders and political activists in Landi Kotal staged a protest against the proposed establishment of a toll plaza on the Peshawar-Torkham Highway. They argued that repeated border closures and additional taxes had already burdened local traders and transporters, and the new toll would exacerbate their financial difficulties.

Protesters stressed that the toll would negatively impact livelihoods, urging authorities to reconsider the plan and consult with the local community before moving forward. The administration has yet to respond to the concerns raised by residents and traders.
