LAHORE – The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) engineers’ protest entered its second day on Wednesday, as tensions mounted over unpaid salary increments and alleged administrative pressure from management.
The strike, organized by the Aircraft Engineers’ Association, has led to the cancellation of seven flights and delays in 39 others across the country, leaving passengers stranded at various airports.

According to the association’s president, engineers have grown increasingly frustrated with the national carrier’s CEO and what they describe as a lack of engagement from management to resolve their demands.
In response, the PIA administration stated that operational disruptions would not be tolerated, adding that contingency plans were in place to minimize inconvenience to passengers. A spokesperson reaffirmed the airline’s commitment to maintaining flight schedules despite internal unrest.

The CEO has reportedly issued strict warnings against the protesters, invoking the Essential Services Act, which prohibits strikes in critical sectors. Management has also warned that violators could face disciplinary or legal action, arguing that the engineers’ movement “has no legal standing” and is an attempt to “sabotage the airline’s privatisation.”
Despite ongoing tensions, officials claim that essential operations remain functional, and passengers are advised to check flight status updates before traveling.
