For the first time in the history of Attock, a formal chess competition was organised at the Attock Sports Gymnasium under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner Attock Anza Abbasi in collaboration with the Punjab Government, aimed at promoting healthy competitive culture among youth while sharpening intellectual strength, critical thinking and strategic reasoning.
According to APP correspondent, a total of 28 players, including 24 male and 4 female participants, along with 4 judges took part in the tournament. Matches were played on a best-of-three format from 9am till 2pm.
Shawel Haider clinched first position, Muhammad Zaman secured second place, while Zeeshan Ahmed bagged third position. The winning participants were awarded cash prizes. Anza Abbasi said chess is not just a game of entertainment but a symbol of wisdom, patience, strategy and mental discipline. “Chess globally is recognised as a training of strategic planning and decision-making. It sharpens memory, enhances cognitive functions and improves problem-solving abilities,” she added. She said the district administration will continue to promote such intellectual and skill-building activities among youth, as these platforms form the foundation of balanced, progressive and mentally strengthened future generations.
