
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed candidate Khurram Zeeshan won the Senate seat vacated by Shibli Faraz. Faraz, the former opposition leader in the Senate, was disqualified after being convicted in cases related to the May 9, 2023 riots.
Khurram secured 91 votes, surpassing the required 75 votes to win. The PTI confirmed the result through an official document shared on social media, while the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) validated the election.

Shibli Faraz’s disqualification triggered the by-election. Faraz’s removal was seen as a significant political event, and parties closely monitored the contest for the vacant Senate seat.
PTI leaders praised Zeeshan’s victory as a major political achievement. They stated it reinforces PTI’s influence in the Senate and strengthens its role in shaping national legislation.
