Pakistan’s GDP growth revised upward to 3.04% for FY25

Published on: October 9, 2025 3:35 PM

Pakistan’s economy has shown stronger-than-expected performance, as the government revised the country’s GDP growth rate for FY2025 to 3.04%, compared to the earlier estimate of 2.68%. The upward revision was driven by a robust 5.66% growth recorded in the fourth quarter, reflecting improved performance in key economic sectors. The National Accounts Committee (NAC) approved the revised figures during its 114th meeting held in Islamabad, marking a significant boost to economic confidence.

The country’s total economic output is now valued at $407.2 billion, while per capita income has risen to $1,812, signaling gradual economic recovery and stronger productivity. The committee also approved updated growth figures for the first three quarters of FY2025, revising Q1 from 1.37% to 1.80%, Q2 from 1.53% to 1.94%, and Q3 from 2.40% to 2.79%. These revisions reflect improved performance in industrial and service sectors, which contributed to the steady economic rebound.

Moreover, the economy displayed remarkable resilience during Q4, with agriculture, industry, and services growing by +0.18%, +19.95%, and +3.72%, respectively. Despite a decline of -17.55% in major crops, the agriculture sector gained momentum through higher output in other crops such as green fodder, onions, and mangoes, which grew by 14.2%, 12.6%, and 26.4%. Livestock, forestry, and fishing also posted positive growth, showcasing diversification in agricultural activity.

The industrial sector’s performance was particularly encouraging, posting a strong rebound of +19.95% compared to a contraction of -3.06% in the same period last year. The electricity, gas, and water supply industries registered exceptional growth of +121.38%, supported by increased subsidies, lower deflator effects, and a favorable comparison with last year’s low base. Mining, quarrying, and large-scale manufacturing also recorded steady gains, indicating rising industrial momentum and improved capacity utilization.

In addition, the NAC revised the previous year’s growth rate for FY2024 to 2.58% from 2.51%, reflecting better performance in the industrial and service sectors. The industrial growth rate improved from -1.37% to -1.19%, mainly due to adjustments in the energy sector, while services rose from 2.19% to 2.25% on the back of stronger transportation and storage activities. Overall, the revised 3.04% GDP growth highlights Pakistan’s gradual but steady economic recovery, supported by structural reforms, improved production, and stable macroeconomic management.
