ISLAMABAD – Pakistani authorities have issued a serious warning after uncovering a scheme by foreign intelligence agencies, allegedly from India, to extract sensitive information through fake online job offers. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) received a letter from law-enforcement agencies confirming that these hostile groups are using deceptive recruitment tactics to target young citizens. Their main goal is to collect data and images of sensitive national sites under the disguise of employment opportunities.
According to officials, the agencies have established multiple websites and social media profiles that appear to represent legitimate companies. They attract job-seekers by offering high salaries, flexible work options, and attractive job descriptions. Once contact is established, these fake employers use clever pretexts—such as surveys, verification tasks, or training assignments—to ask applicants for photographs and GPS locations of government buildings and strategic installations. This gathered information can then be used against Pakistan’s national security interests.

The PTA has responded quickly to this alarming situation by launching a nationwide awareness campaign, specifically aimed at protecting the youth from falling into these digital traps. Through prerecorded voice calls, messages, and online posts, the authority is warning citizens to remain alert to suspicious job offers on social media and employment websites. The PTA’s campaign emphasizes that enemy intelligence networks are operating under false identities and are targeting people’s curiosity and need for work.
Furthermore, officials revealed that these fraudulent recruitment drives often originate from neighboring countries but appear to operate locally. Platforms similar to professional networking and job sites are being misused to collect personal and location data of job-seekers. Once obtained, this information can be exploited for espionage or sabotage purposes, posing a major threat to the country’s defense and infrastructure.

To counter these threats, the PTA is working closely with security agencies to identify and block all websites and online accounts involved in such malicious activities. The public is strongly urged to verify every online job offer before sharing any personal or location-based details. By staying cautious and spreading awareness, citizens can help protect both their personal safety and the country’s national interests.
