Delhi Police stopped a plan to kill Indian comedian Munawar Faruqui and arrested two suspects. The two men, Rahul and Sahil Kumar, belong to criminal gangs led by Rohit Godara and Virendra Charn. Police said the suspects followed Faruqui for months in cities like Mumbai and Bengaluru. They were planning to attack him to gain fame and please their gang leaders.
According to police, the gangs were angry at Faruqui for his past jokes about Hindu gods. Their goal was to kill him and send a strong message. Police tracked the suspects through intelligence and caught them near Jaitpur Road in Delhi. During the arrest, the men opened fire, and police shot them in the legs. Both were injured and taken to a hospital.
Senior officer Pramod Singh said the suspects had already tried to attack Faruqui in two cities but failed due to poor planning. They returned to Delhi to try again. Police acted quickly after receiving a tip. Rahul, one of the suspects, has a criminal record including three murders in latHaryana. Sahil Kumar also faces charges in financial and other crimes.
Officials said the gang wanted to boost its power by targeting famous people. The same group may be linked to a recent shooting outside actress Disha Patani’s home. Police believe this is part of a trend where gangs target celebrities to grow their reputation. They are increasing efforts to stop such threats in the future.
This is not the first time a Muslim actor has faced threats. Police have earlier stopped plots against Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. The latest arrest highlights growing risks to public figures in India. Police say they will continue working to protect those who may be targeted.
