Major General Rahim Safavi of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader has described the recently signed defence agreement between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan as a positive development. Speaking to Iranian media, Safavi suggested that Iran could also benefit from joining the pact, emphasizing the need for Muslim countries to set aside differences and unite against shared challenges.
He noted that the influence of the United States in the region is waning as it shifts its focus toward the Asia-Pacific, making this an opportune moment to explore the creation of a regional Islamic security bloc to safeguard stability and sovereignty.
The Pakistan-Saudi agreement, finalized recently, stipulates that any attack on one country will be treated as an attack on the other. In related developments, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar stated in London that several other countries are showing interest in signing similar defence agreements with Pakistan, signaling growing regional cooperation.
