James Gunn, the acclaimed American filmmaker known for his work on blockbuster superhero films, has shared insights into his upcoming DC project, Man of Tomorrow. The film, described as a follow-up to Superman, will explore the story of both Superman and his iconic nemesis, Lex Luthor, offering a fresh perspective on their legendary rivalry.
Gunn emphasized that the movie will be distinct from previous Superman films. “I like my movies to be different. Guardians 1 is not the same as Guardians 3. They’re different. Man of Tomorrow will not be the same as Superman. And it is Lex’s story too, so it’s the two of them. That colors it in a totally different way,” he said in an interview with Collider.
Details about the film remain largely under wraps, fueling excitement among fans. Questions about the potential appearance of Brainiac arose after a script cover surfaced online, but the co-DC head reassured audiences that specifics will be revealed at the right time.
Man of Tomorrow is set to hit theaters on July 9, 2027. Gunn’s previous DC film, Superman, starring David Corenswet, opened on July 11 and earned $56.5 million in its opening weekend, marking the second-biggest debut of the year. The movie is now approaching a $600 million global box office milestone.
