
US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Wednesday at the Chief Minister’s House. The meeting covered a wide range of topics including investment opportunities, flood preparedness, food security, energy cooperation, and the Keti Bandar Port project. Senior officials from both sides, including US Consul General Charles Goodman and Political Officer Jared Hansen, also attended the meeting.
CM Murad Ali Shah reiterated his government’s commitment to launching the Keti Bandar Port, calling it Pakistan’s first natural deep-sea port and part of Benazir Bhutto’s vision. He highlighted the urgent need for a new port to reduce pressure on Karachi Port. They also discussed connecting Shahrah-e-Bhutto directly to the port to ease heavy traffic within Karachi.

Natalie Baker said senior executives from leading US companies will soon visit Karachi to explore investment opportunities. She noted that American firms are eager to invest in Sindh, especially in sectors like energy, mining, and infrastructure. CM Shah assured full government support for foreign investors and welcomed cooperation in agriculture, industry, and technology.

Energy and industrial collaboration featured strongly, with special focus on Thar coal-based projects. These include converting coal into gas, fertilizer, and diesel. CM Shah stressed the importance of using local resources to strengthen Sindh’s economy. On flood preparedness, he said Sindh had taken robust measures for a potential super flood, even though this year’s flooding was less severe.

The meeting also discussed US support in disaster response and development. The US provided boats, tents, beds, and water pumps, along with $2.25 million in aid through the UN and NGOs. They also addressed food insecurity and rising wheat import costs. CM Shah emphasized the need for immediate action to ensure food security. The two sides also discussed law enforcement cooperation, training for disabled youth, and education for hearing-impaired children, with both parties agreeing to deepen partnerships across multiple sectors.
