
The parliamentary panel has directed Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president Tariq Hussain Bugti to hold elections within two months. The Standing Committee of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) met to discuss the pending PHF elections and related governance issues. Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) was also asked to complete its inquiry into the federation’s alleged irregularities.

The committee heard from law officials, PHF representatives, and the IPC ministry. They confirmed Bugti’s appointment as legitimate but emphasized that his mandate includes holding elections. Bugti assured the committee he will complete the elections within the given timeframe.
The FIA is investigating over 100 audit paras against the PHF, many pointing to alleged corruption. The committee instructed FIA to conclude the inquiry and report the findings within two months. PHF elections will be supervised by a Pakistan Sports Board (PSB)-appointed election commissioner.
The committee also directed the PSB to scrutinize hockey clubs in collaboration with local administrations. PHF was asked to provide full details of bank accounts, tour expenditures, income sources, and administrative spending. Unauthorised perks and office-bearers’ expenses were also questioned.

MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan said the committee will ensure timely and transparent elections. He emphasized that hockey, as Pakistan’s national game, deserves special attention. PHF elections are now on track, and the government will leave no stone unturned to improve the sport.
