Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir visited Bannu, where they attended a high-level meeting on terrorism and security challenges gripping the region. During the visit, they also participated in the funeral prayers of twelve soldiers who embraced martyrdom in an operation against militants in South Waziristan, reaffirming the state’s firm stance against terrorism.
While addressing security officials, Shehbaz Sharif stated that Afghan nationals were found involved in recent terrorist incidents, making their urgent repatriation inevitable. He added that the ringleaders and facilitators of terrorists operating in Pakistan are currently based in Afghanistan, with India allegedly extending support to such hostile elements, posing a serious threat.
Moreover, the prime minister emphasized that Afghanistan must choose between harbouring foreign-backed militants or fostering peaceful and cooperative ties with Pakistan. He stressed that illegal Afghan residents inside the country cross borders for terror attacks, making their return necessary for ensuring stability and security within Pakistan.
Additionally, Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that terrorism would be confronted with an uncompromising response, leaving no room for confusion. He warned that any individual facilitating Indian-backed terror proxies or supporting foreign actors would face strict administrative and legal measures, which the government intends to implement without delay.
Furthermore, the premier appreciated the unity and resilience of the Pakistani nation, especially the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who continue to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the state and armed forces against militant threats. He also visited the Combined Military Hospital Bannu, where he inquired after injured personnel, while the Corps Commander Peshawar gave a detailed briefing on the evolving security situation in the province.
