Kalabagh dam delay is Pakistan’s biggest mistake: KP Chief Minister

Published on: September 2, 2025 3:29 PM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur called for building the Kalabagh Dam, saying it is vital for Pakistan’s future. He stressed that avoiding such projects harms the country and its coming generations. Gandapur spoke at the KP House in Islamabad during a media briefing. He thanked Maryam Nawaz for her call during the recent floods. He also offered help to Punjab for flood relief efforts. He urged all political leaders to avoid using floods for political gains.

Gandapur explained that the Kalabagh Dam would provide water to Punjab, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Despite opposition from Sindh, he asked all provinces to discuss the project openly. He said politics has delayed the dam’s construction, which the country urgently needs. According to him, not building this dam is an injustice to Pakistan’s people and future generations. He encouraged leaders to unite and complete the project for the benefit of all.

Furthermore, Gandapur revealed that no province is currently willing to fund the dam’s construction. He stated that he is ready to provide money himself to help finish the project. However, he criticized Punjab for not contributing financially. The Chief Minister said the lack of cooperation shows bigger political problems in the country. He added that the country lacks both law and constitution in practice, with politics replaced by revenge.

Gandapur also commented on the role of the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, stating it should be strictly constitutional. He said he has warned Governor Kundi several times to avoid political interference. He claimed the power to remove the Governor from KP if needed. Gandapur mentioned that he had removed Faisal Karim from Islamabad House, and he has not returned since. He criticized many politicians for relying on official perks instead of serving the people.

In conclusion, Ali Amin Gandapur’s strong message calls for cooperation and action on the Kalabagh Dam project. He emphasized that this dam is crucial for water security and national unity. Without political disputes, the project could help Pakistan’s future generations thrive. He urged all leaders to prioritize the country over politics. The dam’s completion, he said, is a responsibility for all provinces and political parties.
