
Fears of a super flood escalated on Monday as a massive inflow of water from India entered Punjab, swelling rivers and inundating dozens of villages, leaving locals stranded and roads blocked.
Authorities warned that around 1 million cusecs of water are expected to reach Head Panjnad between September 2 and 3, while Guddu Barrage may see 800,000 to 1.1 million cusecs by September 5 to 6.
In Sindh’s Dadu district, floodwaters surged into three union councils of the katcha belt, submerging villages and forcing residents to evacuate by boat. Over 30 villages in UC Sial, Munder, and Pat Sharif were flooded.
Khairpur also faced severe flooding as multiple villages in the katcha belt were submerged. Eleven police stations were washed away, compelling officers to move to embankments, while relief operations are ongoing across affected areas.
The Sindh Education Department converted over 1,000 government schools into flood relief camps. A notification confirmed that 32,900 flood victims will be accommodated across four tehsils, including Larkana, Ratodero, Bakrani, and Dokri.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, the Sutlej and Ravi rivers reached extreme flood levels at Bloki, submerging hundreds of settlements. At Trimmu Headworks, water surged to 700,000 cusecs, with Head Marala expecting massive inflows in two days.
Rescue teams continue evacuations via boats in Nowshera, Okara, and Jhang. Key roads, including Sargodha Road and Pakkewala Bypass, were submerged. PDMA issued high flood warnings, putting multiple districts on alert.
