No captaincy changes for Pakistan, says PCB

Published on: August 25, 2025 5:41 PM

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has denied all rumors about changing the national team’s captaincy. Officials confirmed there is no discussion to remove Shan Masood as Test captain. Likewise, Saud Shakeel is not being considered as his replacement. The PCB also ruled out Mohammad Rizwan losing his ODI captaincy, and Salman Ali Agha is not in contention for the role. The board stressed these reports are “baseless” and clarified that no captaincy decisions are under review.

The PCB made the announcement amid widespread speculation in the media. These rumors suggested changes to Pakistan’s cricket leadership were imminent. The board used official statements and social media channels to set the record straight. Meanwhile, no changes have been made to player contracts or team roles. Pakistan is focused on upcoming tournaments, including the Tri-Nation T20I Series starting August 29 in Sharjah.

Following the T20 series, Pakistan will compete in the Asia Cup 2025, starting September 9. The tournament features eight teams divided into two groups. Pakistan is in Group A alongside India, UAE, and Oman. The team’s Asia Cup opener is against Oman on September 12, followed by a high-profile clash with India on September 14. These events mark a critical phase in Pakistan’s cricket calendar.

In other news, former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie praised young batter Muhammad Irfan Khan for his talent and temperament. Gillespie called Irfan a “quality player” with a bright future in international cricket. He encouraged T20 franchises worldwide to sign the 22-year-old. Irfan impressed recently in Australia’s Top End T20 Series, scoring 127 runs in six innings with a strong strike rate. Gillespie previously criticized PCB for excluding Irfan from the Champions Trophy squad.

Despite his team’s semifinal loss to Perth Scorchers Academy, Irfan’s form stood out. Gillespie believes Irfan Khan will be a key player for Pakistan’s future. His clean striking and fielding skills have won praise from experts and fans alike. As Pakistan prepares for upcoming tournaments, Irfan’s growing reputation adds fresh excitement to the team’s prospects.
