Perrie opens up about past relationship with Zayn Malik

Published on: August 21, 2025 8:01 AM

Perrie Edwards has opened up about her past relationship with Zayn Malik, revealing she once believed “toxic” behaviour was a normal part of love until finding healing, stability and true connection with fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Appearing on a podcast, the Little Mix star reflected on how her early relationship with Malik shaped her understanding of love and relationships. “I think at the time I thought everything we experienced was normal,” she shared. “Because it was my first relationship, first love. I thought, ‘Oh, it’s supposed to feel a little bit toxic in some ways.'” Edwards and Malik began dating after their time on The X Factor, getting engaged in 2013 before splitting in 2015. The breakup made headlines, with reports Malik ended things via text and rumours of infidelity swirling. “We were engaged, so clearly we had feelings for each other,” Edwards said. “But I was so young. How I know that wasn’t what love should feel like. I didn’t know any different.” The experience left her wary of love altogether. “I didn’t even want to meet anybody,” she admitted.
