Director Meesum Naqvi recently appeared on Gup Shup with FUCHSIA Magazine, where he addressed fans’ questions about a possible second season of Mayi Ri and the making of Parwarish. Naqvi clarified that he has no plans to continue Mayi Ri, despite the massive popularity of the lead characters Aina and Samar. Instead, he focused on creating a new story that highlights fresh challenges.
Mayi Ri told the powerful story of a 15-year-old schoolgirl forced into child marriage. It highlighted the damaging impact such practices can have on young lives. Naqvi firmly stated that making a sequel would go against the original message. “What would the plot even be—halala and a reunion? That doesn’t make sense,” he explained.
Instead of revisiting Mayi Ri, Naqvi used the opportunity to work with Aina Asif and Samar Jafri again in Parwarish. The new series explores parenthood and the struggles faced by the younger generation. It also focuses on the theme of freedom and decision-making, offering a meaningful follow-up to the previous drama without repeating its storyline.
At first, Naqvi wasn’t fully committed to the idea of Parwarish. Two years after Mayi Ri, he had no ongoing projects until the production team suggested this new concept. After reading the script, he felt connected to it and decided to direct the show. The chemistry of the lead pair and the well-crafted story encouraged him to move forward.
Discussing casting decisions, Naqvi revealed that the role of Wali in Parwarish was written with Samar in mind, matching his musical and personal traits. Although Aina had scheduling conflicts, she adjusted her availability to join the project. Their return as a duo has already sparked excitement among fans.
Lastly, Naqvi shared that he avoided including cousin marriage in Parwarish, even though it was briefly considered for a love triangle plot. He believed it was important not to repeat the same themes. “We already explored that in Mayi Ri, and I wanted something different,” he said.
