KARACHI: Despite allotment, lease, sub-lease and completion of boundary wall on KMC Officers Owais Qurni Cooperative Housing Society (KMC-OQCHS)’s land, the allottees are not being allowed to build their homes there by office bearers of Society. Since 1993, 1200 serving, retired and heirs of deceased officials (allottees) of KMC-OOQHS) have been striving to build their homes on earmarked 240 square yards of plots. After 24 years, first ever meeting of the society was held on April 28, 2017 at KMC Sports Complex. Besides office bearers of society, allottees and heirs of deceased employees including widows attended the meeting. The allottees demanded of the office bearers to remove the hitch in the way to hand over the plots to build the houses. The office bearers of the Society informed them, they had won the cases versus Shehri, a non-governmental organization (NGO) in different courts, as NGO opposed in the courts for building of homes on the said land. “In due course of time, we went to court of law where we prayed for starting construction of homes besides providing utilities, but Shehri, through filing a suit 1484/2008 versus government of Sindh and Society in the court had taken stand against the building of homes”. The court granted stay on October 3, 2008, later both cases were amalgamated with each other vide SHC order of June 14, 2010. A commission of enquiry was ordered under justice retired Ata-ur-Rehman to record the evidence from both sides. The enquiry commission submitted its report to SHC after recording evidence from both sides on January 20, 2011 to March 6, 2014. After submission of enquiry report, senior citizens became party in case and filed a petition to bear the case on red file basis weekly basis which was accepted by SHC, officer bearers informed. Several hearings were made but advocate of Shehri has been avoided to appear on ex-party decision. Finally last date of hearing was set for April 14, 2017. On the next date in the Court, verbal arguments from both sides concluded and the court reserved the verdict. The office bearers of Society showing their hope before the allottees asserted that Court would give verdict in their favor. “We prayed the Court to give verdict on humanitarian ground as the allottees had been waiting since long”, said Rehan Khan, Chairman of the Society. In March 1993, Shehri had alleged 200 acres within Gutter Baghicha was illegally leased to Society by KMC.
