South Punjab school uplift projects reviewed

Published on: July 22, 2025 1:16 AM

Director of Public Instruction (Secondary Education) South Punjab Zahida Batool visited Layyah, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan to inspect progress on education sector development projects initiated under the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif.

During the visit, she reviewed the construction of additional classrooms, provision of basic facilities, and the repair or reconstruction of dilapidated school buildings. Currently, development work is underway in more than 30 schools across the three districts. She inspected the pace and quality of the projects and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing work.

DPI Zahida Batool said significant progress is being made in South Punjab in the field of education through these initiatives. The projects are being carried out based on need and available budget and are progressing well in most areas.

She also held separate meetings with the Deputy Commissioners of each district, where discussions focused on ensuring timely completion, effective monitoring, and transparency in the execution of the projects. The district administrations informed her that tehsil-level committees have been formed and regular site visits are being conducted by Assistant Commissioners. Development work is being implemented through the notified School Management Committees (SMCs), while local public representatives have also been taken into confidence to ensure transparency and community involvement.

The DPI directed the concerned Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of education to expedite the identification of schools in need of work. She also ordered immediate corrective measures in already identified institutions and instructed that lists be prepared to include additional schools in light of the availability of more funds, aiming for 100 percent project completion.

She added that these initiatives will not only improve the learning environment but also provide quality facilities to thousands of students across South Punjab. Residents of the region have welcomed the steps and expressed gratitude to the Punjab government for prioritising education.
