Islamabad’s traffic police go high-tech with drone patrols

Published on: July 12, 2025 2:32 PM

Islamabad’s traffic police have launched a new initiative using drone technology to monitor and penalize traffic violations on the city’s busiest roads. This technology is currently active on the Expressway and Srinagar Highway, where it helps enforce traffic laws more effectively.

The Islamabad Police spokesperson explained that drones are tracking common violations such as lane changing without signaling, illegal grafting, vehicle overloading, and dangerous stunts like one-wheeling.

So far, the drones have identified over 300 offenders who have been fined, while more than 350 drivers have received awareness messages about safe driving. Additionally, multiple vehicles involved in serious violations have been seized and taken into custody at police stations.

Thanks to drones, traffic police can now spot violations quickly and issue fines immediately, speeding up enforcement and discouraging repeat offenses. The authorities plan to extend drone surveillance to all city sectors and major roads soon, aiming for comprehensive traffic monitoring.

This innovative approach is expected to reduce accidents, improve road discipline, and make Islamabad’s streets safer for everyone by combining technology with traditional policing methods.
