LAHORE – Heavy monsoon rains hit Lahore and nearby areas early Tuesday, flooding low-lying neighborhoods and causing widespread power outages due to tripped electricity feeders. The downpour, which began during the night, left many roads waterlogged and affected daily life across the city.
Several key areas, including Shimla Pahari, Lakshmi Chowk, Jail Road, Gulberg, Airport, and Johar Town, reported intense rainfall. Streets in these locations quickly became submerged, making it difficult for vehicles to pass and leaving many commuters stranded or delayed during morning hours.
Due to the rain and technical faults, dozens of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) feeders tripped, cutting power in multiple areas. Residents in affected zones experienced prolonged electricity outages, adding to the challenges already posed by the rainwater accumulation.
Motorists struggled to navigate the flooded streets as traffic slowed to a crawl in several parts of the city. In areas like Allama Iqbal Town, Garhi Shahu, and Samanabad, vehicles moved slowly through waterlogged roads, while pedestrians sought shelter from the heavy rain.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted continued rainfall today and tomorrow across Punjab and other regions of the country. Authorities have urged citizens to stay cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during the ongoing weather spell.
Emergency services and municipal teams have been mobilized to clear drainage systems and restore power supply. However, residents have called for quicker responses, especially in flood-prone neighborhoods that face frequent disruptions during monsoon season.
