Hamas has officially given a positive response to mediators regarding a new ceasefire and prisoner exchange proposal for Gaza. The proposal, brokered by Qatar and the United States, aims to halt ongoing hostilities and begin a new phase of serious negotiations. Hamas stated it has completed internal consultations and is ready to engage in talks to implement the deal.
According to Israeli media, Israel has already approved the US-Qatar proposal. If Hamas agrees, an Israeli delegation is expected to leave for Doha immediately to begin talks. Reports also suggest the US wants the ceasefire to be finalized before Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu’s upcoming visit to Washington, where former President Donald Trump may personally guarantee and announce the deal.
The proposed agreement includes a 60-day ceasefire, during which joint efforts will focus on ending the war. It outlines the release of 10 live Israeli hostages and the phased return of 18 bodies in three stages. In return, Hamas will submit a list of Palestinian prisoners for release, including names previously rejected by Israel, which could make negotiations more complex.
There are also disagreements on how humanitarian aid should be distributed in Gaza. Israel wants to maintain the current system via an American company, while Hamas prefers aid to be delivered through the United Nations. Additionally, Hamas is demanding daily entry of 400 to 600 humanitarian aid trucks into Gaza.
This development marks a potentially major step toward easing tensions in the region. The coming days will be crucial as both sides prepare to enter a new round of delicate and high-stakes negotiations.
