The e-taxi project launched on the instructions of the Chief Minister of Punjab is progressing rapidly. The Transport Department official sources, while talking to APP, said that it had completed all preparations for implementation of the project, while a special quota has also been allocated for women. According to details, the business and financial model of the project has been prepared, and 1,100 e-taxis will be brought to the roads in Lahore in the initial phase as a pilot project. Under the business plan prepared by NESPAK, e-taxis will be provided to flat owners, individuals and ride-sharing companies, while 30 e-taxis have been allocated for women. Under this project, the Punjab government will pay the markup, token tax and registration fee of the vehicles itself, while 40 percent of the vehicle price will be paid by the flat owners as a down payment, while the remaining amount will be provided by the Bank of Punjab. Applications can be submitted on the portal of the Punjab IT Board. The e-taxis provided under the project will be capable of traveling up to 300 kilometers on a single charge. The Punjab government maintains that the e-taxi project will not only provide employment opportunities but will also reduce environmental pollution due to its eco-friendliness.
