U.S. State Department spokesperson Tamie Bruce has said that the United States supports Pakistan’s demand for an investigation into the Pahalgam incident. She emphasized that the U.S. has urged both India and Pakistan to de-escalate hostilities, calling the situation in Kashmir “deeply concerning.” According to the State Department, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke separately with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. During these calls, Rubio stressed the urgent need to reduce tensions and called for an immediate end to violence. Tamie Bruce said that the U.S. continues to encourage direct dialogue between the two countries and supports efforts to improve communication channels. She reiterated that responsible steps are needed from both sides to address the ongoing issues and confirmed that Washington backs Pakistan’s call for an impartial investigation into the Pahalgam incident. The spokesperson also stated that the U.S. is in contact with both governments at multiple levels. She acknowledged the sensitive and dangerous nature of the situation in South Asia and noted that confidential diplomacy is underway, which limits the level of public disclosure. Earlier, during a phone conversation with Secretary Rubio, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned India’s recent missile and drone attacks, which reportedly killed 31 civilians and injured 57 more. He warned that these attacks violated Pakistan’s sovereignty and regional stability. PM Shehbaz reaffirmed Pakistan’s firm commitment to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity at all costs. He stated that the Pakistani people are outraged by India’s unprovoked aggression and declared that Pakistan reserves the right to respond in accordance with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.
