Islamabad administration denies blackout rumors, warns of action against misinformation

Published on: May 9, 2025 3:08 PM

Islamabad’s district administration has firmly denied rumors about a planned nighttime electricity blackout, labeling them completely false and baseless. The clarification follows a wave of panic sparked by audio messages claiming that mosques had announced lights should be turned off at night. These rumors circulated widely on social media and messaging apps, causing confusion among residents.

Deputy Commissioner Islamabad confirmed that no such directive was issued by any government authority. He emphasized that the city’s security and electricity operations are functioning normally. The DC reassured citizens that there is no cause for alarm and urged them not to believe or act on unverified information.

He also warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone spreading fake news or inciting fear—whether through mosque loudspeakers, social media platforms, or other means. The administration has already identified some sources behind the disinformation and has initiated monitoring efforts across major areas.

To further ease public concern, the DC reminded citizens that in any emergency, only the district administration will release verified announcements through its official social and electronic media channels. He stressed the importance of public cooperation in maintaining peace and avoiding unnecessary panic in these sensitive times.
