KARACHI: Sindh Sold Waste Management Authority (SSWMB) has on trial basis started sipping of main roads of district south through 20 water browsers, imported from China, officials of SSWMA informed. This practice of cleaning roads with the help of using water-laden carriers has been re-started after 45 years. City administration in bygone used to swab city roads using water-laden vehicles. Chairman of Pakistan Peoples Party or the Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the project during May 2017, officials of SSWMA revealed. The cleaning job of the roads and streets in Clifton Cantonment Board and Saddar (Karachi Cantonment Board) area, falling under south district would however not be taken into account. Earlier the sipping job of the roads had been undertaken in the supervision of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC)’s Municipal Services Department. During former Nazim Karachi, Mustafa Kamal this practice had been carried out for a short period of time. There is a system of roads washing in many of the developed countries which is done under these countries’ staff of local bodies. Dr A D Sajnani, Managing Director SSWMA said that current road sipping has been carried out on trail basis. However this system will be introduced in other districts of the city after some time, he added.
