An appellate tribunal accepted on Tuesday the nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senior Vice President Sher Afzal Marwat for NA-32 Peshawar. The tribunal of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) heard Marwat’s appeal against the rejection of his nomination papers by the returning officer and accepted the PTI’s arguments against the RO’s decision. Speaking to the media, Marwat said said the strategy of distributing tickets to members of the legal fraternity in Khyber-Paktunkhwa differs from the practice in Punjab. He added that he plans to meet party found Imran Khan today to discuss the matter of ticket distribution in K-P. Addressing a recent controversy, Marwat mentioned that there is no disagreement with Atif Khan. He clarified that while he does not believe the audio should have been shared on a group, he is not offering apologies to anyone, However, Atif called and apologised to Marwat. Furthermore, Marwat highlighted his issues with the party’s central organisation, stating that there might be disagreement with the language he had used. He added that there is opposition from Sher Ali Arbab, but emphasised that he is someone who does not ‘blindly agree’ as he is more focused towards taking action and working for the party. Earlier, the PTI senior vice president was arrested under 3 MPO from outside the Lahore High Court premises. However, the LHC ordered Marwat’s release on December 18 after the defendant’s counsel argued that “Marwat was arrested merely on presumptions and the detention was illegal and unlawful”. It is pertinent to note that PTI founder Imran Khan clinched victory in NA-32 (now NA-31) by securing over 32,000 votes, triumphing over ANP’s Ghulam Ahmed Bilour, supported by the PDM, during the October 2022 by-elections.
