Sir: As if Karachi is not plagued by enough demons already, strikes are called every other day to add to the miseries of the ordinary person. Surprisingly, our political leaders call strikes to protest a wrong government move, and the next day, without any solution, life is allowed to wheel along at a normal pace. This fake mechanism to show concern for the masses by political parties should end. When these strikes are inconsequential, why call them in the first place? When our political leaders are hand-in-glove with one another, why put the life of an ordinary person at risk and impose more misery? Millions of families in Karachi live on daily wages; they bear most of the brunt because of these strikes. Government loses billions of rupees in tax. It is time that our political heads devise some better way to register protest with the government if they are serious about ameliorating the problems of the masses. KHAIR-UN-NISA Karachi
