Sir: Fatima Surayya Bajia is a renowned Urdu novelist, playwright and drama writer. She is one of the well known persons in Pakistani society. She was born in Hyderabad in India and then migrated to Pakistan. She never attended a school and all her education took place at home. Despite not attending school, she is ranked among eminent intellectuals, readers and writers.
She started her career as an actress in a play aired by PTV in 1966. From then, she adopted writing as a career. She has written more than 10 plays and drama serials. Her most famous dramas include Aroosa, Zeenat, Shama and Afshan. These dramas were aired on PTV and some of the best actors in the industry performed in these serials. The influence of dramas written by Fatima was so fascinating that families in Pakistan as well as across the border used to complete all their household chores and duties in order to spare time for watching these plays. Quality family entertainment was the hallmark of her dramas and this made her famous all over the country.
Fatima Surayya Bajia has won many awards for her brilliant pieces of work. Her awards include the Pride of Performance Award, Hilal-i-Imtiaz Award and Japan’s Highest Civil Award. She has also worked as the Adviser to the Chief Minister Sindh. She is a renowned personality due to her work for radio, television and stage.
