KATHMANDU: An earthquake-triggered avalanche killed a 43-year-old Nepali guide and injured a British climber on Monday. They were part of a 13-member team, climbing the 6,812-metre (22,349-foot) AmaDablam peak in the Everest region when a 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck. “The avalanche occurred after the earthquake hit,” Himalayan Guides Managing Director IswariPaudel told AFP,“The two were airlifted but the guide was already dead. The British climber suffered minor injuries and was undergoing treatment in Kathmandu.” Paudel said that all other team members were safe. Nepal was recovering from a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake last year that killed 9,000 people, including 18 who died in an avalanche.
