LAHORE: Pakistan WAPDA, with 97 points, won the National Bench Press Powerlifting Championship here on Wednesday. They grabbed six gold and one bronze medals, and set six new national records. Asim Shahzad created three new national records in the weight category of 59kg by lifting 106kg, 110kg and 112kg weight. Hafiz Mohammad Waqas set one new national record in 105kg by lifting 193kg. Mohammad Aftab established one new national record in 120kg category by lifting 195kg. Mohammad Usman lifted the heaviest weight of 197kg in over120kg category. The only new national record set by Police was in 83kg category. Their Ather Ali lifted 111kg. Railways remained runners-up with 67 points by winning one gold, three silver and as many bronze medals. Police secured the third place with 52 points. They bagged one gold and three silver medals. Powerlifters from 11 different affiliated units of the Pakistan Powerlifting Federation competed in the weight categories of 59, 66 and 74kg. Besides the top three departments, other participants were the four provinces, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.
