KARACHI: Two suspected criminals were killed during separate alleged encounters with the police in Sharafi Goth and Gulistan-e-Jauhar neighbourhoods on Tuesday. Police officials said that Sharafi Goth police conducted a raid at Moinabad area of Landhi at the hideout of criminals on the information provided by an already arrested criminal. The police personnel faced massive resistance during the raid. The police also retaliated with a full force. During an exchange of fire, two suspects were killed while a policeman was wounded. The bodies of the deceased and the injured cop were taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsies and medical treatment; where one the suspects killed was later identified as Noman. A passerby child identified as eight-year-old Talha was also wounded during an exchange of fire. Police also claim to have recovered weapons from his possession. SHO Nusrat Shaikh claimed that the suspect killed was wanted to the police in more than 20 cases of street crimes. Similarly, another suspected criminal was killed during an exchange of fire with the police in Gulistan-e-Jauhar area. Police officials said that the encounter took place when the suspected criminals riding a motorcycle were busy in looting the passersby’s, adding that the police personnel on motorcycle paroling reached the site and tried to intercept the suspects, however, the suspects opened fire at the police and tried to escape. The police also retaliated and killed one of the suspects after an exchange of fire. His body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy and later shifted to Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification purpose.
