KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to Sindh police chief, SSP Malir Rao Anwar and other official respondents to submit their response to a petition of former SSP Niaz Khoso seeking recovery of his son said to be illegally confined by Rao Anwar. Niaz Khoso has taken SSP Rao to the court for allegedly kidnapping his son Mehrab Khan, a sub-inspector of anti-encroachment force, from near Bahria Town on March 28. After initial hearing, a two-judge bench headed by Justice Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui issued notices to the official respondents- home secretary, IG Sindh, Rao Anwar, and Gadap SHO to file their comments on the petition until next hearing. It also issued notice to the provincial law officer to ensure filing of the comments by the respondents. In his petition, ex-SSP submitted that the SSP Malir along with his armed men came in an armored personnel carrier and six police vehicles and forcibly took his son away from near Bahria Town on March 28 when they were coming to the city from Sukkur. Subsequently, he said, he reported the incident to police helpline 15 and the SHO of Gadap police station, but they have all failed to swing into action to recover his kidnapped son. He told the judges that when he had approached the district and session judge, Malir, the SHO of Gadap police station was ordered to register an FIR against the SSP Malir and his team members. The petitioner had alleged that SSP Rao has been harboring grudge against his son since Mehrab Khan along with his other staff had conducted a raid in the limits of Sachal police station for removal of encroachments from state land in Scheme 33 and had arrested the land grabbers. When the anti-encroachment force approached the Malir police to seek their assistance in their operation, not only did they refuse to extend any assistance but also got the anti-encroachment operation stopped in connivance with the land grabbers, he alleged. The former SSP pleaded the judges to direct the respondents to recover and find the abouts of his son. NAB inquiry against PPP MPA: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB)’s prosecutor has informed another bench that inquiry against PPP MPA Syed Ali Mardan Shah for misusing his authority and embezzling public funds was completed and sent to the NAB’s chairman for his approval of initiating further action. PPP’s lawmaker and former Sindh Minister for Population Welfare Syed Ali Mardan Shah is facing a NAB inquiry for allegedly misusing his powers and embezzling public funds. He had approached the court apprehending his possible arrest by the NAB investigators. The court had earlier granted him bail against a surety amount of Rs500,000 in connection with the inquiry.
